Making list of attendees...

We have 3 confirmed Rube Goldberg machines coming - and space for up to 6... Hopefully we will have a couple of the "maybes" join us! I will be contacting you this week for the list of attendees associated with your machine for those working in a group. starting mechanism

We originally read the specifications as saying that someone (Jill?) would roll a golf ball down a slope (2x3) to a point specified on our machine. Now we're rethinking and not sure if that was the intention. Are we supposed to build in the slope and just set the golf ball on at the start? Also, we're hoping to have our machine mostly built by the end of this week. Do we need to worry about our golf ball's entry and exit points lining up with anything else (like if we were lining up machines…See More

wooden base?

Is it okay to build (attach to) a 3' by 4' wooden base (a flat board) to make it easier to carry this around? I guess we could tape together several sheets of cardboard for a base, but I'm going to have to transport this in the rain (for a group of Girl Scouts to work on at meetings), and I'd rather it be sturdy.

How to unwind balloon slowly....

I would really like to figure out how to unwind a balloon very slowly - one idea I have is a heavy weight on a long string. But I haven't found any toys with heavy weights. Or maybe unwind the top of the balloon and keep the hole stationary. That could be doable with some erector set type of building metal (make a type of girdle for the balloon). Ideas? What do you think?

It's a pen that looks like a rocket, with the Wired magazine logo on it. Press a button and it opens up into a useable pen. Very cool. They were being given away at the Wired Science booth last year and I very much doubt you can buy them…

Acceptable items

Can I use some of the cheap promotional items picked up at the 2009 Maker Faire?

Fun Rube Goldberg Music Video

From the band, OK Go. Just a tad too big to fit into the dimensions for our challenge.... but way fun to watch.
